The criteria for Eco-ID were developed based on internal expertise and publicly available guidance developed by credible third-party organizations. Specific attributes a given product meets to qualify for the Eco-ID mark are identified in the product details or specifications. Staples depends on supplier provided information to determine qualifying products.

3Varies by product category. Most products need to meet 30% post-consumer content, but some categories require more, and a few categories allow 20% or 25%. A few product categories also require additional features to be present. For example, binders must have 30% post-consumer content and be made with PVC-free plastic, calculators must contain 25% post-consumer plastic and be solar powered.
4Ink and toner cartridges with remanufactured or recycled content do not qualify for Eco-ID unless they are also high yield.
